What are the root words in Protestant Reformation? How do they apply to the Church in the 1500s?

The root words in Protestant and Reformation are protest and reform. Protest because the people during the 1500s didn’t believe what the Church was doing was moral. Reform because the people wanted to change the current status of the Church, the church was too strong, powerful, and had too much control over the people. Luther and other Protestants wanted to abolish many of the Church’s wrong doings, Luther and his Protestants later fought wars with the Catholic Church to retain what they believe what is right.
