Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1454 in Vinci, Italy. He was the son of Ser Piero and Caterina, who was a peasant
girl. Soon after Leonardo’s birth, Ser Piero married to Alberia Amadori and took custody of his son and moved to Florence.
Leonardo was exposed to the arts and learning at a young age, he was taught mathematics and Latin before he was to become
an apprentice. At the age of fifteen, Leonardo began apprenticeship with Andrea del Verrochio, who owned a artisan workshop.
Leonardo crafted his drawing and sketching skills with the help of Verrochio for about 10 years, he was able to sell a few
paintings – the “Baptism of Christ” being the first real sale for Leonardo. It wasn’t until 1470,
when he ran a artisan shop of his own then from there on, Leonardo went under the apprenticeship of Duke of Milan in 1482.
